Mission Statement THE PURPOSE OF OUR CONGREGATION IS TO MAKE MATURE CHRISTIANS WHO IN TURN MAKE MATURE DISCIPLES OF CHRIST SPIRITUAL MATURITY IS DEFINED AS LOVING GOD THROUGH JESUS CHRIST AND LOVING OTHERS THE WAY JESUS LOVES THEM. CORE CHRISTIAN VALUES Sermon on the Mount: Mathew 5:1-12 God & Self Acceptance The ability to accept yourself and your imperfections, and to enable others to be more self-accepting. Empathy The ability to feel what others feel; to laugh and cry with others. Gentleness The ability to be tender because you are inwardly strong and to lead without overpowering others. Spirituality The ability to maintain spiritual priorities and to cause others to seek a deeper walk with Christ Sensitivity The ability to pick up on the hurt and pain of others and be "present" without being pushy or nosy. Transparency The ability to be yourself without any pretenses and allow the presence of Christ to radiate through you. Peacemaking The ability to harmonize differences between others without causing either person to "lose." Endurance The ability to stand up for what you believe without getting defensive or compromising your principles. Our Mission Davis Memorial Disciples extend their ministry in the world through Common Global Ministry of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and the United Church of Christ. Common Global Ministries partners with indigenous churches in education, development, and evangelization overseas. Disciples fund these missions through Basic Mission Finance offerings received four times a year: Thanksgiving, Christian, Easter and Pentecost. Davis Memorial also supports Week of Compassion (also known as "One Great Hour of Sharing"). These funds go directly to support in relief, disaster assistance, development, and comfort for victims of war. One other offering is received in September-October for Reconciliation Mission which goes to battle institutional racism through education and empowerment programs through local congregations. |
